SEGi University & Colleges traces its roots back to 1977, when it was first established as the Systematic Business Training Centre (SBTC) in Kuala Lumpur, offering professional business and accounting qualifications such as ACCA and CIMA. Over the years, the institution expanded its academic offerings and geographical presence, leading to the establishment of the Systematic Institute of Information Technology in 1982 and Systematic College Penang in 1989. In 1995, it was listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange’s Second Board, marking a significant milestone in its growth. Following its merger with the PRIME Group in 2001, it was rebranded as SEG International Berhad (SEGi) in 2002, reflecting its broader educational focus. By 2006, all campuses were unified under the SEGi Colleges brand, and in 2008, the Kota Damansara campus was upgraded to university college status. SEGi achieved full university status in 2012, officially becoming SEGi University & Colleges.
Today, SEGi operates five major campuses across Malaysia — in Kota Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya, Penang, and Sarawak — and serves over 18,000 local and international students. The university is known for its strong emphasis on employability, global partnerships, and student-centred learning. It offers a wide range of programmes in fields such as business, medicine, dentistry, optometry, engineering, and creative arts. SEGi’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation has earned it global recognition, including the prestigious QS 5 Stars Plus rating for teaching quality, employability, internationalisation, and online learning.
